7 DAYS SAFARI KIBOKO
- LAKE NAKURU / MASAI MARA / MOMBASA
DAY
1: NAIROBI
Arrive
Nairobi. Welcome to Nairobi, Kenya's cosmopolitan capital. Once
little more than a watering hole for Masai tribes, today's Nairobi
is the largest city between Cairo and Johannesburg.
If arrival is
in the morning, then in the afternoon we drive to Karen Von Blixen's
former home, now a museum. Continue to the Giraffe Center where
you can feed and photograph giraffe from an elevated platform. Return
to the hotel early this evening.
** Complimentary
dinner at The Carnivore Restaurant**. Nairobi has many restaurants
offering a variety of exotic and African cuisine. However, none
beats Carnivore for its uniqueness: It is for carnivorous. It is
the only place you can get a variety of game Meat served in one
meal. Its succulent steaks and barbecue dishes are recommended for
every one especially as a welcome or a farewell Dinner/Lunch. Overnight
at Panafric Hotel or similar.
DAY
2: NAIROBI - LAKE NAKURU
Early morning breakfast then depart for Lake Nakuru national Park.
A sea of flaming pink as far as the eyes can see. These are the
millions of flamingoes seeking for their food in the salty deep-green
waters of Lake Nakuru. The protected area is primarily for birds,
of which 400 to 500 species can be found here including cormorants
and pelicans. However, visitors to Lake Nakuru may also catch a
glimpse of Thomson gazelles, impalas, waterbucks, giraffes, buffaloes,
or even black rhinos and leopards. Meals and Overnight at Lake
Nakuru Lodge or similar.
DAY 3: LAKE NAKURU - MASAI MARA
Your drive this morning takes you to the Maasai Mara Game Reserve,
the northern part of the Serengeti, one of Kenya's most favored
game-viewing areas. The reserve covers 700 square miles of magnificent
wilderness. It is the Africa of the imagination; endless reaches
of acacia-dotted grasslands studded with hazy hills.
Your accommodations
for the next three nights will be at the Mara Sopa lodge or similar.
This assures guests of a high degree of privacy on game drives.
Everything is big in the Mara Reserve, from the herds of zebra and
wildebeest, which originate in the Serengeti, to the many prides
of the mighty lion that rest and laze in the shade. Your driver
points out the sights that his trained eyes see long before we do.
Suddenly your
caravan grinds to a halt to allow a huge, ivory-tusked elephant
to lumber across the road in front of your vehicle. One of the laws
of the land in East Africa's game parks is that animals, not people,
have the right of way at all times; it is their world, we are the
guests.
Remember that,
for therein lies one of the secrets of the magic of East Africa.
Your afternoons end with a sunset you will long remember. Meals
and Overnight at Mara Sopa lodge or similar.
DAY
4: MASAI MARA
Morning and afternoon game drive in this park offers an absolutely
unique variety of animals. The reason is that this hilly region
is both humid and fertile, and is crossed by the rivers Mara and
Talek, full of crocodiles and hippos, and which carry water the
whole year round. The banks of the rivers are covered in thick forest,
which gradually makes way for bush and grassland.
The abundance
of water and excellent availability of food are reasons why the
Masai Mara which infact is a continuation of the Tanzanian Serengeti
national Park, has the greatest population of wild animals in the
whole of Africa. There is a particularly dramatic "spectacle"
from July to November, the annual migration of huge herds of gnus
and zebras. These herds are, of course closely followed by predators
such as hyenas, jackals, leopards and lions. There is no place where
more of these latter may be seen that in Masai Mara.
Gigantic herds
of over 200 buffaloes can be observed. Plenty of food is available
for elephants, giraffes, and the many species of antelopes and gazelles
all of which can be observed in their natural habitat. Meals and
Overnight at Mara Sopa lodge or similar.
